7 life lessons I learnt while fighting to be healthy again

1. WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO ALLOW BAD THOUGHTS TO ENTER YOUR MIND

Two years ago I had a stomach ache but I thought that I had the flu. Four days later I walked into the Emergency Room for a check-up. I thought that they will tell me that there’s nothing wrong and will send me home. #NotExactly. There had to be an operation. The doctors tried to warn me that as a result there might be additional therapy like chemo.

I didn’t believe them. I was 100% certain that #EverythingWillBeOk and I turned out to be right. The surgeon cut out 13 lbs of tumor mass which turned out to be thecoma – a very rare benignant ovary tumor. What I learned from this operation was is that  when you want something you cannot afford to allow bad thoughts to enter your mind.

2. NEGATIVE THOUGHTS INFLUENCE OUTCOMES

I have to admit, the doctors and the nurses might have thought that I had gone mad. I forbade them to talk about negative outcome from the operation. I told them that everything will be ok. And it turned out ok. Then, the women I was in one room with, who were not as lucky as I was, started seeing what I see: Negative thoughts influence outcomes. No matter what the situation – always believe and expect and work towards the best outcome possible.

3. DON’T SIT AND WAIT – CONSTANTLY MOVE FORWARD.

Less than six months before that operation my relationship with a man ended. I had given him all my heart for four years of my life but he tossed it away. Another woman who was there had a mother who had been criticizing her all her life. Another one had a husband who had entire other family with wife and kids for the past 10 years. All of us had one thing in common – we had given our trust and hearts, we were betrayed, we were hurt and could not move on. Not moving on can literally kill you. What you should do is – process your feelings and focus on the future. Today you create your tomorrow. Don’t do it looking backwards.

4. ASK FOR A MIRACLE, BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL GET IT AND YOU WILL

After the operation it turned out that my stomach was creating free flowing fluid. All doctors were convincing me that I am sick and I need new operation. In my mind, though, the word sick does not exist. I didn’t cancel my trip to the Maldives. I didn’t want to put my life on hold. And I was sure that everything will be ok because I had requested a Christmas miracle.

Exactly two days before Christmas a doctor referred me to a rheumatologist for one more check-up and with two symptoms only: hair loss and ascites he discovered that I have a lupus and no new operation is needed. That was my Christmas Miracle. When you want something with all your heart you’ve got to believe that it will happen with every fiber of your body. Had I listened to any of the other more than 50 doctors, had I believed in anything less than a miracle, I wouldn’t have met the one doctor who solved the puzzle of my health.

5. IF YOU GO THROUGH SOMETHING MORE THAN ONCE – THE SECOND TIME AROUND YOU GET IT RIGHT

Fast forward to two years later, I had an appendicitis operation. When I was still in hospital, I came to realize – we are afraid to end up in a bad situation twice. I see this a lot with personal relationships. Once you’ve had a bad relationship, you get to close off and try everything in your power to not fall into the same situation again.

But it might happen. And if it does – you might do like me: Know in your heart that you are now more equipped to get out of the situation faster than before.

6. TO BE CENTERED IN THE LOVE AND JOY OF BEING ALIVE IS A CHOICE

My Odyssey made a turn for the worse when the doctors discovered MALT lymphoma in the appendices’ biopsy. The bad kind where you don’t know if you will live or die. This is when I woke up to what is really important in life: First and foremost, you need to choose Life. That choice means that you chose to live beyond the mere existence.

When you make that choice you start appreciating every moment in which you are alive. You become grateful for all experiences that come your way – the good and the bad. And you look for happiness and joy in everything.

7. HEALTHY BODY COMES WITH HEALTHY THOUGHTS

I do not know if my #positivism got the scales in my favor or I am incredibly lucky, but after two weeks of positive thinking and tests it turned out that I was a marginal case and I am healthy after all. That’s where it hit me: you get sick because something in your thought process is not correct.

For every sickness there is a thought process behind it that needs to be corrected.

When you pay attention to what your thoughts are when something is burdening you – you might catch the thought that is getting you sick, change it and stay healthy.

8. YOU ARE RICH WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE WHO CARE FOR YOU

When working with clients I see a lot of focus on the material – on making money, specifically six figures; on finding the perfect match who will tick the right boxes. What I teach them on is based on my personal experience: All you need is One non-negotiable requirement for life: Love.

What’s really important in life is: the people who you care about and the people who care about you. Go for that first because this is what makes you rich for real and then chase the material things in life that will help you afford the lifestyle you want.
